ELCA
Who are we?
Family of God Lutheran Church is part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). The ELCA is one of the largest Christian denominations in the United States, with about 4 million members in nearly 10,000 congregations across the United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
We are the church that shares a living, daring confidence in God’s grace. For us, as the ELCA, this faith comes through the good news of Jesus Christ and gives us the freedom and the courage to wonder, discover and boldly participate in what God is up to in the world.
We are a church that is always being made new, and at the same time, is deeply rooted in Scripture, Lutheran theology and Lutheran confessions. We are also rooted in the vibrant, diverse communities and rich histories of our congregations. It’s through these roots that the Holy Spirit guides and nourishes us so that we can be a church that is both resilient and always new.
There is a place for you here.
We welcome you to join this community of faith—the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America- regardless of your age, race, gender, life experience, complexities and questions. You have a unique story that can only add to the richness of the larger story that makes up the ELCA.
This is Christ's church. There is a place for you here. Liberated by our faith, we embrace you as a whole person—questions, complexities, and all. Join us as we do God's work in Christ's name for the life of the world.
What WE Believe
Family of God's mission is "Praising God. Strengthening Families. Serving Community."
In Matthew 28:19, Jesus calls us to service and mission with the instructions to "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."
As Lutherans, we believe:
We are saved by the grace of God alone and not by anything we do.
Through faith in Jesus Christ alone, our sins are forgiven and we are given the assurance of eternal life.
The Bible is the only authority for Christian teaching and Christian living. In order to discover as much of the depth and richness of Scripture and its meaning, all research methods available are used to continually expand our understanding of its message.
All believers in Christ are called to Christian service and all alike are God’s people.
We celebrate the sacraments of Holy Baptism and Holy Communion.
We are a congregation that welcomes all who seek God in community. We challenge one another to grow in spirit and compassion and invite all into joyful worship and service wherever we are called. God gathers us each Sunday Morning to sing, hear God’s word, pray, and receive God’s grace through Holy Communion. Gathered, forgiven, and fed by God, we are sent out to be workers with God in the redemption of the world.
